Desert
Embroidery
is based on traditional embroidery, which was essentially used for
decorating Bedouin dresses. The colors and patterns have social
significance, imparting information on the age of the woman wearing
the dress and her marital status.
Desert
Embroidery currently employs some 70 women on a regular
basis. They gather once a week at a communal center where they receive
payment for projects completed and materials for new projects. Most
of the work is done at their homes so it can easily fit in with
the women's daily routine without infringing on traditional Bedouin
life style and family values.
Desert
Embroidery is marketed throughout the region via boutiques,
cultural stores and local bazaars and world wide via the Internet.
There is much more we can do -- we would be happy to receive specific
orders or unique marketing ideas so please write, call or visit.
